My goal is to share my experiences about the process of becoming a clinical social worker. I will also be including various posts on helpful career resources as well as interviews with social workers and psychologists working in different areas of mental health.

About Social Work Career Development
Welcome to Social Work Career Development - a blog that helps social workers (and other mental health professionals) with their professional development.
My name is Dorlee M. I graduated this past September from graduate school in social work. This means that I have both an MSW, as well as an MBA in marketing under my belt (from my prior career).
My goal is to find a clinical social work position at an outpatient mental health clinic (similar to the position I held as an intern at my second year placement). However, as a result of An Unplanned Detour , this plan is currently on hold.
In terms of this blog, I essentially started it at the same time that I started my graduate studies in social work.
My plan for this blog was to share my experiences about the process of becoming a clinical social worker so that if you should choose to follow this path, you will have some company, as well as some guidance :)
In addition, I am providing posts on various career topics that would be of interest to both social work and other mental health professionals such as interviews with clinicians using different modalities or techniques, career resources and takeaways from interesting workshops and more.
I hope that you find it helpful in your journey. Please feel free to drop me a note if you have any additional ideas for topics to be covered.
Lastly, I'd like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the wonderful experienced clinicians (particularly, Nancy J. Smyth, Linda Grobman, Mike Langlois, Ann Becker-Schutte, Jonathan Singer, Lauren Thomas, and Laurel Wiig ) career experts (especially, Jacqui Barrett-Poindexter and Terry Del Percio ) and friends/colleagues (such as Mozart Guerrier, LovEternal, Marianna Paulson and Sharon Sanquist) who have been my encouragers during my career transition journey - I couldn't have done it without your support! Also, my blog would not be what it is today without your valuable contributions!
Warmly,
Dorlee
