Brainstorming Ideas

Now that I have gotten into the mode of writing two posts per week for the last several weeks, my plan is to try to continue at this pace to the best of my ability.

To that end, I would like to plan out some future posts and would most appreciate getting some input on what you would be interested in reading on this blog.

fading/blossoming. - goes hand in hand i guess.

Some ideas that have occurred to me for future blog posts include:

  • additional helpful resources for social workers
  • graduate school experiences
  • placement experiences
  • interviews with social work professionals
  • interviews with other social work students
  • book reviews
  • organizing tips and
  • inspiring/uplifting type of posts.
Are there some topics that you would prefer seeing me cover more often than others? Do you have additional suggestions for posts?

I'd really like to know what topics are of interest to you.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and hoping you have a great week :)

  1. I would love to see posts on your graduate school experiences, placement experiences, interviews with other students and with social work professionals. Maybe some guest posts from some other students, too.

  2. Guest posts from some other students...I hadn't thought of that idea. That's a great idea.

Thanks so much for your feedback, Nancy :)

  3. Hi Dorlee,

Here are some of my thoughts on topics for posts:

    1. How social work and counseling has changed and new methodologies
    2. How has "goal oriented counseling" changed the relationships between counselor and client
    3. What approaches are being used to help elder citizens who sometimes are feeling left out in the cold....is our society really paying enough attention?
    4. What new techniques are being used to help clients who suffer from clinical depression...particularly those clients who are not helped with medication?
    5. Is anyone talking about the effects of menopause and peri-menopause on millions of women? I think this is still a taboo subject and wish more would be published about it.
    6. I believe extreme anxiety is one of our nations silent epidemics...how is the social work community addressing this?
    7. More about music and dancing and the positive effects on emotional states

You've given me much food for thought :)

  5. Hi Dorlee,

This is my 1st visit to your site and I must say I like it! It's clean and I like the colors you've chosen.

As you know, my perspective comes from the world of recruiting. Over 20 years ago, a seasoned veteran said to me as I was trying to secure a placement, "Close him! We're not social workers." In today's times, this is ineffective.

As a trainer in the recruitment industry, I am continually speaking about taking a consultative approach like a social worker. We are in the people business and must be sensitive to individual desires, perspectives and emotions as it relates to careers.

Perhaps, there is a future post for you? How career counseling can learn from a social worker's approach.

    Best, Mike

  6. Hi Mike R,

Thanks so much for visiting and sharing your thoughts. You bring an interesting perspective to the field of social work.

I had never heard of recruiters needing to take a consultative approach "like a social worker" before.

However, as you explain, you have the desire to ensure the best fit between your clients and their potential employees and I can see there a connection...

Thanks to you, Nancy and Terry, I now have several great potential post ideas.

With much appreciation and best wishes,
    Dorlee

  7. Hi, Dorlee! Thanks, again, for guest posting on my blog. You were the perfect one to address the need for self-care.

I appreciate you asking for input on topics for posts on your blog. I am forever being asked about the differences between social workers, psychologists, and counselors.

Research shows that the longer each of us is in practice, them more similar we become. However, the original training that we receive in these disciplines is quite different. I know how I think about these differences in training but would really enjoy reading how you and others differentiate between them.

    That's my suggestion!

  8. Hi Tamara,

    It was my pleasure :)

The differences between social workers, psychologists and counselors...that is an interesting potential post topic.

    Thanks for the suggestion!
